Off the File menu have (optional >> based Settings) Open Recent list.

Latest pre-release has "Custom key mapping" "Custom icons" and "File history" so there should be no need to expand the windows file open dialogs. compare the 2 systems. The SumatraPDF list is more in sync with last viewed. but "File Open" is not in SumatraPDF view order.
