Further Support for Japanese Fonts in PDFs
In Japan, the most famous and commonly used novel posting site "小説家になろう(Shousetsuka ni Narou)" officially allows the download of vertical writing PDF files of their works. When attempting to view these files with your software, we encountered an issue where Japanese punctuation and symbols were garbled, appearing as □. However, these files can be viewed correctly with other software such as Acrobat Reader.
Unfortunately, I cannot attach a PDF file here, but I can provide instructions on how to obtain such a file for testing:
Go to the work page (e.g., https://ncode.syosetu.com/n2163n/).
Click on "縦書きPDF(Vertical Writing PDF)" at the top of the page.
Click the blue "縦書きPDFダウンロード(Download Vertical Writing PDF)" button at the bottom center of the page.
We kindly request the addition of features or support to ensure these files can be correctly viewed with your software.
Closed
I'm closing this because it's a bug report more appropriate for https://github.com/sumatrapdfreader/sumatrapdf/issues The problem seems to be that this file uses font "MS Mincho" for part of the text and expects the font to be installed on the computer, but it isn't. If you're the one making the file then you should embed non-standard fonts in the PDF file.
